Thus far in training camp...
- Alexei Semenov and Tomas Plihal are apparently both under contract for the year. No, I don't know why. Plihal I can understand; he has at least some potential. But Semenov? I've seen telephone poles with better mobility.
- Word is Jeff Friesen is looking good. Good!
- An interesting note from David Pollack about line combos. Below are what Todd McLellan put together for the first day of camp:
|Patrick Marleau||Joe Thornton||Ryan Clowe|
|Milan Michalek||Joe Pavelski||Jonathan Cheechoo|
|Marcel Goc||Torrey Mitchell||Mike Grier|
|Tomas Plihal||Jeremy Roenick||Devin Setoguchi|
|Jeff Friesen||Steve Zalewski||Mike Morris|
|Jody Shelley||Lukas Kaspar||Ryan Vesce|
Something tells me there will be changes before the season starts. Not to mention two fewer lines.
- The Sharks are at least $226,000 over the salary cap, and since this doesn't include whatever Plihal and Semenov are being paid it's probably somewhere between one and two million. It'll be interesting to see how this is resolved. The vibe seems to be someone or someones is/are going to play his/their way off the team. Either that, or it's going to be Craig Rivet once more; i.e. painful salary dump time.
