Thomas Greiss will get his first start in over a month tonight as Sharks Head Coach Todd McLellan utilizes the back to back to get his backup goaltender some game action. It will be Greiss' first start in over a month, with his last appearance coming on December 3rd against Florida. Greiss, who has had a very solid year thus far, will hope to rebound from his 5 goals against performance against the Panthers.
Antti Niemi will be the backup tonight. As dutiful Sharks fans know, San Jose is currently carrying three goalies on their active roster-- Niemi, Greiss, and Antero Niittymaki. It remains to be seen when or if Niittymaki will receive game duty in either a backup or starting role this season.
In other Sharks news, Colin White was placed on the IR today to clear way for the recall of Tommy Wingels. Wingels has 13 goals, 8 assists, and 21 points in 29 games this season with the Worcester Sharks. It remains to be seen whether he will start tonight, with that news likely dropping before game time.
