Ryane Clowe might coach, play puck from behind Bulls bench

Bulls make signing of Sharks winger official with hints that he might assume a role behind the team's bench if he opts not to take the ice in game action.

In case Ryane Clowe signing with the Sharks' ECHL affiliate wasn't strange enough, San Francisco Bulls president and head coach Pat Curcio hinted today that the San Jose winger might be behind the bench as a temporary assistant coach for Friday's game against Stockton and beyond.

As David Pollak reported last week, Clowe has already begun practicing with the Bulls and may end up lacing up the skates for a game at some point. Until then, he'll have to settle for playing the puck from behind the bench while assisting Curcio. Those skills should especially come in handy on Saturday when the Bulls take on the Los Angeles Kings' ECHL affiliate (now with 100% more Devin Setoguchi) Ontario Reign.

In other Bulls news, San Francisco also announced the signing of locked-out Edmonton Oilers defenseman Theo Peckham. The 24-year-old blueliner is coming off a pretty poor season at the NHL level but that doesn't mean he can't help a Bulls defense that has given up nearly 30 shots and over 4 goals per game.
