It's a battle of the backups tonight at Ponda as Thomas Greiss starts his second game of the season for the Sharks against Viktor Fasth and the Anaheim Ducks. Fasth has only made two NHL appearances so far in his "rookie" season (and looked impressive, compiling a .938 SV%) but the 30-year-old has dominated the Swedish Elite League, posting SV%s of .934 and .925 in two full seasons with AIK. Basically, the goddamn Ducks probably have another Jonas Hiller on their hands and he has an early opportunity to frustrate the hell out of the Sharks. Fun. Here's some pre-game reading ahead of the 7PM puck drop:
Sharks vs. Ducks: Not these guys again | Fear The Fin
Sharks Gameday: Battle of the Bands | Battle of California
Sharks-Ducks at a glance | CSN Bay Area
Battle of the backups? | CSN Bay Area
Update from Ducks Morning Skate: Fowler out, Fasth in | Anaheim Calling
Ducks Gameday: Battle of the Bands | Battle of California
Prediction: Sharks 3, Ducks 2. Ryane Clowe finally gets his first goal of the season and Brad Staubitz is ejected thirteen seconds into his first shift. Go Sharks.
