Raffi Torres Has ACL Surgery, Out 3-5 Months

New, comments

The Sharks announced that Raffi Torres had surgery to repair his right ACL Thursday morning.

Raffi Torres underwent surgery this morning to repair a torn ACL according to David Pollak of the San Jose Merucry News. Torres collided with Anaheim Ducks’ forward Emerson Etem in a preseason game and was rumored to be out from anywhere between six weeks and four months.

This certainly impacts the already shallow forward depth of the Sharks and likely means Tomas Hertl will get more than a cup of coffee with the Sharks this season. Torres’ injury could also mean we’ll see a lot of Matt Nieto this season -- both Hertl and Nieto have impressed in their preseason appearances.

Torres was first acquired by the Sharks last April for a third round draft pick and was re-signed to a three-year deal in June.

So hey, this sucks; but it also gives Hertl and possibly Nieto a golden opportunity to prove themselves in the NHL in his absence. Silver lining, I guess.

Here is a video from GM Doug Wilson on the Torres news.
