2014 NHL Entry Draft Open Thread

It’s that time of year again. The 2014 NHL Entry Draft is upon us and the San Jose Sharks currently have seven selections over the course of it, including three within the top sixty picks. I say currently because the lead-up to the draft has been abuzz with trade rumors, as always, and it’s possible the Sharks could be involved in a trade that either adds picks to their stable or gives a selection or two up. Ryan Kesler has been traded to Anaheim, Jason Spezza is rumored to be on the block and Doug Wilson would have probably liked to throw a third high-profile center in Joe Thornton into that mix were the Sharks’ captain willing to waive his no-movement clause.

Florida, Buffalo, Edmonton, Calgary and the Islanders own the top five selections in the draft with defenseman Aaron Ekblad of the Barrie Colts projected to go first overall. Forwards Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett, Leon Draisaitl and Michael Dal Colle will likely round out the top five. The draft begins at 4PM Pacific and will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network (and NBCSports.com) in the U.S. along with TSN in Canada. We’ll update the site with coverage and analysis of any and all Sharks-related moves that happen today. In the meantime, buckle up and feel free to discuss the draft here.
