Logan Couture injured again

New, comments

Logan Couture's leg injury suffered in Wednesday's game was unrelated to his previously broken ankle.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Unfortunately, Logan Couture, who missed 23 Sharks games recovering from a broken ankle, appears to be missing more time due to another injury.

After returning for Tuesday's game against Calgary, he left midway through Wednesday's game versus Edmonton. This injury appears to be unrelated to the prior one.

No time table was given, but the very rough ballpark guess seems to be a week or two.

In the meantime, it appears Tomas Hertl will move back into the top six, where he did a great job in Couture's prior absence - at least at even strength. The biggest loss will be on the powerplay, and the trickle down effect that will once again weaken the bottom six forward group.

Full statement from Doug Wilson:

"In Wednesday night's game in Edmonton, Logan suffered trauma to his right thigh, creating a Charley-horse effect which prohibited him from returning to the game.

Upon returning to San Jose, it was discovered that there was a small arterial bleed in the area. Last night, Logan underwent a successful procedure in San Jose to close the artery and is expected to make a full recovery.

At this time, there is no projected time frame for his return to the ice but we do not expect this to be a long-term recovery.

Fortunately, this injury is completely unrelated to his previous ankle injury."
