Report: Relocated AHL team to be named San Jose Barracuda

San Jose's second professional hockey team, the Sharks' AHL affiliate slated to move from Worcester to the SAP Center for the start of next season, now has a name: the Barracuda.

In what apparently isn't an April Fool's joke, Silicon Valley Business Journal is reporting that the San Jose chapter of the American Hockey League's newly-established Pacific Division will share a name with Campbell-based security and data storage firm Barracuda Networks, already a prominent sponsor of the Sharks. The logo above, obtained by the Business Journal, shares some striking similarities with Barracuda Networks' logo as the two fins in the background resemble those in Barracuda's signage.

Granted, barracuda are also large, predatory fish so the name does make some sense for a Sharks affiliate in addition to being a corporate cash grab. At least they're not the San Jose SAPs. The Barracuda will begin play at the Shark Tank in the fall, where they'll hopefully come out every night to this song:
