Despite carrying promise of being the first day of the rest of the Sharks franchise's history, today's locker clean-out session and media availability in San Jose turned out to be just another day. Head coach Todd McLellan wasn't fired, at least not for the time being, and general manager Doug Wilson merely announced that a more thorough review of the organization will be conducted. About the only intriguing things to emerge from the day's proceedings were further reminders that everything isn't perfectly harmonious among some of the franchise's key figures.
Logan Couture, understandably upset after missing the playoffs for the first time in his career, told reporters that the overall culture of the organization is "not great." Joe Thornton, fully and gloriously embracing "I dare you to trade me" mode, went further when asked about McLellan's future:
Thornton's latest jab at #SJSharks McLellan, not GM: "Todd has to talk to his family. Maybe he should talk to this family as well in here."— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) April 15, 2015
Yikes. In case you needed further proof of discord in the Sharks dressing room, there you go. It's about all you get from an otherwise uneventful day.
