  • San Jose is reportedly among "half a dozen" teams to have spoken with pending unrestricted free agent defenseman Cody Franson this week during the NHL's early interviewing period. Calgary, Toronto, Pittsburgh and Dallas are the other clubs confirmed to have spoken to him. [Pro Hockey Talk]
  • Being friends with Timo Meier on Facebook helped Halifax Mooseheads defenseman Cavan Fitzgerald find out he had earned an invite to the Sharks' upcoming rookie camp. Fitzgerald, an August 1996 birthday who was (barely) eligible for the 2014 draft as well as the 2015 draft but was passed over both times, scored 31 point in 40 regular season games and added 10 in 14 playoff contests on the Halifax blueline. • DBD's reaction to the Stars signing Antti Niemi to form a Finnish platoon in net. [Defending Big D]
  • Players Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Pronger, Sergei Fedorov, Phil Housley and Angela Ruggiero along with "builders" Peter Karmanos Jr. and Bill Hay will be inducted in the Hockey Hall Of Fame this year. [NHL.com]
  • Instead of buying out Mike Richards' contract as expected, the Kings terminated his deal for a "material breach" of contract. Rumors are swirling on what exactly that means but Katie Strang confirms here there was an off-ice incident L.A. learned about on Friday that got the wheels in motion on this move. [ESPN]
  • The Bruins Have Lost Their Goddamn Minds, Day 4: Boston traded a third round pick for Flyers goon Zac Rinaldo on Monday. DW needs to move quick to trade a diaper bag for Tuukka Rask. [Broad Street Hockey]
  • Mark Arcobello, who scored 17 goals for four different teams last season, is now a UFA after not being tendered a qualifying offer by Arizona. [Rotowire]
  • Another player in that same boat: Lightning defenseman Mark Barberio, who might be a decent fit on the Sharks' third pairing if they don't re-sign Matt Irwin. [Raw Charge]
