[Editor's note: A technical snafu caused this post to not go up last night. Sorry about the delay.]
While the Sharks fell to the Red Wings 2-1 on Thursday night, it came with a silver lining. San Jose played well enough to win, outshooting the Wings by 36-25 and truthfully dominating Detroit throughout long stretches of the game. Petr Mrazek played as well as Jimmy Howard played poorly in the two teams' first meeting of the season. Sometimes that's all it takes.
Turnabout is fair play, too, as the Sharks got a win they really didn't deserve in Detroit in their last meeting. These things tend to balance themselves out, but as long as San Jose is playing well on the ice I feel good about where the team is headed.
San Jose evened the score at one thanks to a Joel Ward tally late in the first period and that score stood until Justin Abdelkader's game-winning goal at 13:08 of the third period.
Despite giving up a pair of goals, Martin Jones had a nice bounce-back performance as he stopped 23 of the 25 shots that came his way.
Next up the Sharks host the Maple Leafs.
