The Sharks practiced on Tuesday with something resembling their opening night roster. So they’ll get a look against a division rival, the Anaheim Ducks, with the battles narrowed down to a few key matchups — albeit without San Jose’s Canadian contingent in the lineup.
There are still plenty of questions this morning that won’t be answered until a bit later. We don’t know who will play in goal — Martin Jones may play, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Aaron Dell get the lion’s share of the action. We also aren’t sure what the lines will look like, given that the likes of Joe Thornton skated on Tuesday.
It’s looking more and more likely that Joe Pavelski will return to the lineup in his first action since the World Cup of Hockey. Mikkel Boedker also seems like a candidate for getting his first taste of the preseason. So we’ll see. Players to watch for, assuming they play, continue to be the young guys.
Kevin Labanc keeps fighting for his spot on the opening night roster while Chris Tierney appears to have a hold on the 3C job for the time being. Without Thornton in the lineup we might see Hertl slid lower in the lines, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see Tierney at 3C for the better part of the evening.
