Sharks vs. Ducks Preview: San Jose closes out preseason slate

Don’t expect a veteran group in Anaheim.

The San Jose Sharks close out their preseason schedule in Anaheim tonight at 5 p.m. on NHL Network. After losing 3-1 to the Arizona Coyotes on Friday, don’t expect the lineup to look all that similar to what we’ll see on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Kings.

Case in point? The two call ups made on Saturday afternoon. Ryan Carpenter and Dan Kelly were both recalled to the Sharks from the San Jose Barracuda and will almost certainly play on Sunday in Anaheim. If Joel Ward is fit to go I wouldn’t be shocked to see him play, but don’t expect to see guys like Joe Thornton in the lineup.

For the Ducks’ part, I’d expect to see a more “opening night” roster which should offer another great test for the younger players who will likely get another shot to prove their worth. My guess is that most roster decisions have already been made, but getting experience against NHL caliber players is invaluable for developing players.

If you can suffer through the Anaheim Ducks broadcast team, enjoy watching some of the young guys for the last time in a Sharks jersey for a while. This should be fun.
