The Barracuda are nearly done with a long road trip. San Jose was swept by the San Diego Gulls on Friday and Saturday while being outscored 7-2 (6-2 technically, since they lost in a shootout on Friday). The Barracuda finish their road trip in Bakersfield on Tuesday.
There isn’t much to report from Saturday’s 4-0 defeat other than the Barracuda outshooting the Gulls 37-25. Troy Grosenick allowed four goals on 29 shots while his counterpart, Matt Hackett, stopped everything thrown his way.
Highlights
On Friday, Timo Meier scored his third goal of the season while Ryan Carpenter potted his second. Daniel O’Regan, Tim Heed and Joakim Ryan had assists in the loss. Grosenick also started this game, inexplicably, and made 34 saves on 36 shots.
Why would anyone start the same goalie on back to back nights in the AHL? That’s a great question. I have no idea. It doesn’t make any sense unless Mantas Armalis was unable to start both nights.
The losses drop the Barracuda into fifth place in the Pacific with a point percentage of .545. It’s a strong division this year as even the last place team, the Bakersfield Condors, have a point percentage of .417. Expect a wild card team to come from this division.
