Giving Tuesday: A shoutout to Next Door Solutions

A reminder/update of/to our #HockeyFightsDV pledge

Today is #givingtuesday, an event that celebrates charities and encourages people to donate. So today seems like a good time to provide a little update on our #HockeyFightsDV pledge to Next Door Solutions Against Domestic Violence, a San Jose-based women’s shelter.

I’m donating $5 for every point the Sharks pick up in the standings this year. While San Jose’s point total should be a bit higher in my opinion, the boys in teal have helped raise a fair amount of money for Next Door. As of the time of this writing we’re up to $125 donated to NDS.

Here’s the original post, which I update with the current donation amount as it goes along. You can also learn a little bit more about NDS there, which I encourage especially if you’re a Bay Area resident.

There are plenty of great charities to give to today, but I’ve always liked NDS’ mission, particularly given the NHL’s not-so-great response to domestic violence incidents over the year. Mix in that the shelter is in San Jose and you’ve got a perfect fit. So if you can afford to give, that would be great!

Here’s a little something from NDS on how to get involved today:

Today is a national day of generosity, #GivingTuesday. It's a day when you can make a big difference in the lives of the clients of Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence.

With your help, we will raise funds to provide survivors and their children with essentials from gift cards for food, diapers and clothes, the purchase of "Go Phones" or a hotel stay when the Shelter is full.

How can you be a part of it? Here are a few simple ideas:

Consider making a gift today for #GivingTuesday

Join us by providing holiday treats for our clients

Help us get the word out on social media, "Like" us on Facebook, and hashtag #GivingTuesday

Take photos demonstrating why you love Next Door Solutions and post on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.

Do something kind for another person

With your support, we can raise $3,000 for survivors of domestic violence and their children.

Sincerely,

Beth Williams

Director of Development

Tell them Fear the Fin sent you. Readers have stepped up in a huge way in the past (Pulse shooting) and it’s cool that some associate our community with charitable giving. Let’s keep that going. If you’ve got a #HockeyFightsDV pledge, share it in the comments. I’d love to hear about it.
