The San Jose Sharks got a better result on the second game of their post-all star break road trip than they did in the first, getting a 3-1 victory on the road against St Louis tonight.
The game started off with a lot of penalties for both teams - and as a result, a lot of shots. Justin Braun took the first penalty of the game, followed by another for the Sharks and two for the Blues. They were all killed off, despite a high shot total. At the end of the first the Sharks led in shots 16-13.
Joonas Donskoi got the second period off to a good start for San Jose with the first goal of the game:
This was followed by more penalties for both teams; but the Blues took more and they paid for it. Just after a Sharks power play ended, Joe Thornton potted his tenth goal of the season four-on-four to put San Jose up 2-0.

Yet another pair of penalties was handed out shortly after, and St. Louis was able to get one past Martin Jones to make the score 2-1. The Sharks led shots 26-19 after the second period.
With only three minutes left in a relatively quiet third period, Matt Nieto put an insurance goal past Brian Elliott to secure the win for the Sharks, who ended the game with 32 shots while Jones made 26 saves. The Sharks now have five points on the third place Anaheim Ducks (though Anaheim has two games in hand).
