Better Know a Penguin: Tom Kuhnhackl

New, comments

I have no idea how to pronounce his surname, but he is a pretty good hockey player

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Tom Kuhnhackl might have just broke into the league this year, but don't count him out to make an impact. Kuhnhackl was drafted out of Landshut in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The German speedster has had a slower development pace than most, but he has impressed at every level. Kuhnhackl has spent most of his shifts with former Capital Eric Fehr and the age-defying Matt Cullen on the fourth line.

While he is tall, Kuhnhackl has a slight build and plenty of speed to burn the Sharks' bottom pair. Although Kuhnhackl makes his mark as a responsible 200-foot player, he is still a steady contributor to a high-octane Pittsburgh offense.

Name: Tom Kuhnhackl

Number/Position: #34 / Left Wing

Born: January 21, 1992 (24)

Birthplace: Landshut, Germany

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 196

Assets

Shoots the puck with aplomb and skate pretty well for a player with a very projectable frame. Has scoring instincts and all-around upside.

Flaws

Is somewhat prone to injury, which may limit his National Hockey League aspirations. Could stand to play a more aggressive brand of hockey.

Career Potential

Depth scoring winger, when healthy.
