With the 2016 draft just over a week away, we’re going to highlight a few players the Sharks could be targeting for their first pick late in the second round. San Jose has the 60th pick in the draft. The first round will be held on June 24 in Buffalo with the remainder of the draft scheduled for June 25.
Other draft profiles:
Name: Sam Steel
Position: Center
Born: February 3, 1998
Birthplace: Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada
Height: 5'10
Weight: 175
Shoots: Left
TSN Pick Projection: 56th
Assets
Sam Steel, teammate of yesterday’s profiled player Adam Brooks, has played two seasons for the WHL’s Regina Pats. Steel had 70 points in 72 games played this season, and 47 of those being assists says good things about Steel’s passing game.
Flaws
Steel is on the small side, at 5’10 and 175 pounds. While there was a slight improvement in points per game from his first WHL season to his second, it would have been good to see more. He has also been known to be inconsistent from game to game.
Career Potential
2nd or 3rd line center (via The Hockey Writers)
