Goaltender Aaron Dell will rejoin the organization, possibly as the backup for Martin Jones. The Sharks also signed Micheal Haley. He played in 16 games with the Sharks this year and spent most of his time with the Barracuda. I anticipate that will be the case here, too.
Dell’s deal is for two years, while Haley’s is just one.
SHARKS RE-SIGN GOALTENDER AARON DELL
SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed goaltender Aaron Dell (@ADell32) to a two-year contract.
Dell, 27, posted a 17-16-1 record with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage along with four shutouts in 40 games with the San Jose Barracuda last season. He ranked T-8th in the AHL in goals-against average, T-4th in save percentage, T-6th in shutouts and 11th in saves (1,094). In addition, Dell posted a 1-3 record with a 2.59 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage to go along with two assists in four Calder Cup Playoff games during the San Jose Barracuda' first-ever playoff appearance last season.
In 72 career AHL games with San Jose (AHL), Worcester and Abbotsford, Dell has compiled a 33-26-7-1 record with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage. In 41 career ECHL contests with Allen and Utah, the netminder posted a 27-8-5 record with a 2.34 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.
Dell won the CHL (Central Hockey League) Championship with the Allen Americans in 2013 and was named the CHL's most outstanding goaltender in 2012-13. He is currently the career leader at the University of North Dakota in goals-against average (1.79) and save percentage (.923), during his three seasons with the university.
The six-foot, 210-pound native of Airdrie, Alberta, was originally signed as a free agent by San Jose on March 4, 2015.
SHARKS RE-SIGN FORWARD MICHEAL HALEY
SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed forward Micheal Haley to a one-year contract.
Haley, 30, recorded one goal and 48 penalty minutes in 16 games with the Sharks last season. He registered 23 points (12 goals, 11 assists), 52 penalty minutes and a plus-6 rating in 41 games with the Barracuda during the 2015-16 campaign.
The forward has collected 168 points (87 goals, 81 assists) and 1,098 penalty minutes in 478 career AHL games with Hartford, Connecticut, Bridgeport, Worcester and the Barracuda. In addition, Haley has posted three goals, one assist and 222 penalty minutes in 72 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, New York Islanders and San Jose.
The five-foot-ten. 205-pound native of Guelph, Ontario, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Islanders on May 19, 2008.
