Listen, I know we don’t have a lot of love for the Vancouver Canucks as a professional hockey franchise. But given the pitiful state of the franchise, I think we can do one of their fans a solid.
Joking aside, I’m putting out a call for donations to help out a friend whose mom has terminal cancer. My friend and her fiance want to get married ASAP before her mom passes and they need some cash in order to make it happen.
You can donate here and read her story below:
My name is Kit, and my fiancé Liam and I live and work in Halifax. We each came here for school and have stayed to work for local businesses we love, though our families are far away in Toronto and Vancouver.
Liam and I got engaged in February, and we've been really lucky to be able to share our joy with our family and friends, particularly my mom Shannon. Mom and I are really close - in my teens, I got to help her plan her own wedding to her husband Sujeet, and we've both always dreamed of planning mine together. Unfortunately, my mom has stage IV cancer. In December of 2014, we were told to expect about two years, but right now it looks like she might not get even that.
Mom's most recent treatments have destroyed her immune system and her cancer has aggressively resisted the chemotherapy. Her doctors have just told us that while they are not giving up hope that she'll get a few more months, we should plan on only weeks. We are utterly heartbroken.
Liam and I need your help to get to Vancouver to see mom before she dies, and to get married with her in attendance. Anything you can give will go towards travel costs first, then any wedding costs, and anything extra we receive will be donated to cancer research.
Thank you for whatever support you can give - it means the world.
I’m still in the early stages of trying to brainstorm ways to
force convince you all to send money her way, but if you want me to get a Sharks tattoo or shave my head, I’m willing to hear bids. Please share this with your friends if you can — and thanks. I appreciate it.
