He’s from Long Beach.

Matt Nieto is a known quantity at this point, but I still feel like he’s relatively underrated and at just 23 has room to improve. Nieto will never be a top-six player, at least not in terms of scoring, but as a bottom-six winger he offers a lot of value to the Sharks.

I’m not going to embed his HERO chart for the 1,000th time, but if you haven’t seen it ... rectify that. Then read this about where he stacks up amongst California-born NHLers. And be nicer to Nieto. He tries hard.

Name: Matt Nieto

Age (as of 10/12/16): 23

Position: Left Wing

2015-16 Team: San Jose Sharks

Where he’ll (probably) be next year: San Jose Sharks

What we like: Possession-driving play and energy on both ends of the ice.

What to improve on: Scoring and general good-handedness.

Highlight:

Remember when the game was over after this and the Kings went quietly into the good night? Me too. Meeeeee too.
