I’ll be honest: I don’t really care about who wins the World Cup of Hockey this year. My main concern is with the performance of the Sharks involved (and their health) — so in that way, we’ll call Friday’s exhibition game a success.
The United States beat Canada 4-2, but more importantly Joe Pavelski scored in his first game as captain of the Americans. He scored the third goal of the night, so yes, the game-winning goal and everything.
Team USA got outshot 45-23 and relied on Jonathan Quick’s brilliance (I know) to get past the Canadians. Pavelski was interviewed after the game:
There are three games on tap for today starting at 7:30 a.m. PT. Russia plays the Czech Republic (ESPN3), Finland takes on Sweden (ESPN3) at 9 a.m. PT and yes, the United States plays Canada (ESPN3) at 4 p.m. PT. So if college football isn’t your thing, you’ve got plenty of hockey to watch tomorrow. Yay.
