Dylan DeMelo out multiple weeks with wrist injury

The Sharks’ insurance policy needs an insurance policy.

A slash to the right wrist of Dylan DeMelo from the stick of Zack Kassian will keep the defender out for at least a few weeks according to Sharks head coach Pete DeBoer and reported by Friend of the Blog Kevin Kurz. Here’s the quote from DeBoer, but I recommend checking out the entirety of Kurz’s article.

“We don’t have [anything] official until he gets home and gets pictures and things, but it looks like it’s going to be a few weeks, anyway,” DeBoer said.

That makes things a little more interesting for an already banged up San Jose blue line. David Schlemko is still on the shelf with an upper body injury but may be nearing a return despite not making the trip to Alberta. If Schlemko isn’t ready to go, San Jose can go with either Mirco Mueller or Tim Heed.

It looks like the Sharks will roll with Mueller on Wednesday night but don’t rule out Heed making his debut in the near future. Heed has 31 points in 28 American Hockey League games. The Barracuda don’t play again until Friday night and the Sharks aren’t back in action after Wednesday’s game until Saturday when they host St. Louis.

What’s the best move for the Sharks going forward on the blue line?
