Sharks send down Mueller

Likely to get him some playing time with the Barracuda tonight.

NHL: Minnesota Wild at San Jose Sharks Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

The San Jose Sharks reassigned third-year defenseman Mirco Mueller to the San Jose Barracuda, general manager Doug Wilson announced today.

Mueller played a little over a minute on Wednesday against the Calgary Flames, but was removed quickly after he was deemed ineligible to play after Paul Martin was listed on the lineup card. Martin is not skating today according to Kevin Kurz, so it’s likely this move is to get Mueller some playing time tonight, as the Barracuda host the division rival Ontario Reign.

Expect the Sharks to recall Mueller on Saturday, so the Sharks are able to carry seven defensemen with DeMelo set to miss at least eight weeks and David Schlemko on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Whether Mueller plays tomorrow during Fear the Fin night remains to be seen.
