Joonas Donskoi placed on injured reserve

Sharks recall Ryan Carpenter, Barclay Goodrow and Tim Heed

NHL: San Jose Sharks at Calgary Flames Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

The Sharks placed Joonas Donskoi on injured reserve and listed him as day-to-day with an upper body injury. As a result, San Jose recalled Ryan Carpenter, Tim Heed and Barclay Goodrow. My guess is all three of those players traveled to Los Angeles with the team while Donskoi stayed in San Jose.

It’s possible one of those players will break into the lineup against the Kings on Wednesday, but my guess is those guys were brought up as warm bodies for practice today and tomorrow. Carpenter has 20 points in 29 AHL games while Goodrow has 19 in 31 games. Carpenter has one goal in three NHL games this season while Goodrow hasn’t played in the NHL this year.

That Donskoi is listed as day-to-day is encouraging, but if he’s out for much longer than this I expect someone else will get at least a tryout in the lineup. His placement on injured reserve doesn’t change San Jose’s salary cap situation; that only changes if he gets put on Long Term Injured Reserve.
