Brenden Dillon will have a disciplinary hearing for his slash on Madison Bowey last night, in a heated match between the San Jose Sharks and the Washington Capitals.
The incident occurred with only five seconds left in the game. Dillon was assessed a five minute major and a game misconduct. With the league cracking down on slashing, it’s no surprise. So far this season, four players have been fined for slashing, all but one receiving a $5,000 charge, and Ryan Hartman getting the maximum amount of $2,320.79 per his contract. The Flyers’ Radko Gudas was also suspended ten games for slashing on Mathieu Perreault last month.
Joe Thornton, on the other hand, has avoided discipline for his hit on TJ Oshie last night. While tangled up with Couture along the boards, Oshie fell and Thornton’s hip bounced his head off the boards. Oshie did not return to the game and is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Tom Wilson struck up a fight with Thornton in the third, both receiving five minutes for fighting.
