Barracuda Down Reign 4-1
The San Jose Barracuda continued to roll over one of their tougher opponents in the Ontario Reign. The Reign were looking to get back on track after losing their last game to the San Diego Gulls by an identical 4-1 score. The Barracuda were looking to extend their seven-game winning streak to eight games.
The Barracuda struck first as Dan Kelly notched his first goal of the season at 7:47 with a rocket from the point. The assists would go to Buddy Robinson (7) and Rourke Chartier (12). Dan Kelly, of course, being far better known for his rugged play than goal scoring. The period would be a back and forth affair before Ontario would even up the score at one with a goal from Patrick Bjorkstand who would get his sixth of the season from TJ Hensick (25) and Kurtis MacDermid (10).
The Barracuda would dominate the second period of play and while they could not take advantage of two separate power play opportunities Nikolay Goldobin would score his 12th at 13:43 of the season drawing assists from Daniel O’Regan (25) and Julius Bergman (17). The fact that Goldobin has not been called up this year is baffling to me, and this is coming from a guy who would have laughed at anyone who asked about Goldobin on the Sharks entering the season. This goal would hold up as the game-winner as the Barracuda would out shoot the Reign 11-2 in the middle frame.
The Reign would push back in the third period but Troy Grosenick and his defense would be up to the task. The Barracuda would add to their lead at 3:42 of the third period with a goal from Nikita Jevpalovs as he scored his eighth of the season. Micheal Brodzinski (1) and Barclay Goodrow (12) would draw the assists. The Barracuda would cap off their win with an empty net goal from Barclay Goodrow, his 16th with assists from Dan Kelly (4) and Micheal Brodzinski (2).
1st. Nikolay Goldobin (1 Goal)
2nd. Dan Kelly (1 Goal, 1 Assist)

The Barracuda outshot the Reign 30-24. Jack Campbell made 26 saves in the loss while Troy Grosenick made 23 saves for the win. The Barracuda went 0/4 on the power play and 3/3 on the penalty kill. The Barracuda will face Tuscan on a rare AHL Tuesday game at SAP Center. The Reign were missing some key pieces including Teddy Purcell.
