Sharks remove Dylan DeMelo from injured reserve

San Jose ties up loose ends to start bye week

NHL: Minnesota Wild at San Jose Sharks Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

The Sharks tied up some loose ends this morning by taking Dylan DeMelo off injured reserve and sending a bevy of players down to the Barracuda. Ready? Kevin Labanc, Nikolay Goldobin, Marcus Sorensen and Mirco Mueller all got their walking papers on Monday to join the Sharks’ American Hockey League affiliate.

The Smoll Sharks play twice during San Jose’s bye week: tonight at home against the Texas Stars and on the road in Tucson on Friday, and I expect all these players to get action then. As for who gets called back up on Saturday to play in Vancouver? That’s not so certain. Goldobin didn’t play in the third period despite entering it with an even corsi rating (BLERGH WHO CARES JAKE) so we may have seen the last of the Russian forward for a while.

Meanwhile Timo Meier played well in his most recent foray with the Barracuda and just may have found another opportunity to get back to the big club. Of course he’s not the only player down there fighting for a chance to get back. Danny O’Regan leads the Barracuda in primary points, and while he plays a different position (center), should at least be in the discussion.

I’ll dig into this deeper later in the week, but who do you think deserves a call up on Saturday?
