Logan Couture and Joe Thornton are game-time decisions according to Friend of the Blog Kevin Kurz. Both players skated in Edmonton this morning and continue to be evaluated by head coach Pete DeBoer and the rest of the San Jose coaching staff.
Couture took a deflected puck to the face from a Brent Burns’ shot and is currently wearing a full cage. He’s struggling to breathe and see and is dealing with a considerable amount of pain, which seems to be the main reason keeping him off the ice. No concussion symptoms were reported. Take that for whatever it is worth to you.
Thornton hobbled off the ice after attempting to lay a hit late in the season and, by my estimation (and that’s all it is), is less likely to play tonight. He has not looked good while skating in any video I’ve seen. Here’s what former San Jose, and current Edmonton Oilers, head coach Todd McLellan said about Thornton.
McLellan expects Thornton to play at some point in the series "unless they cut his leg off." Calls him an "old school" guy— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzNBCS) April 12, 2017
Whether that’s what’s best for Thornton... we’ll see.
Update: It’s Thornton’s call.
