Sharks vs. Flames Preview: San Jose ends the regular season against Calgary

Let’s see what kind of lineup Pete DeBoer throws out there.

San Jose and Calgary meet for the final time during the regular season at 7 p.m. at SAP Center. The Sharks sit two points behind the Oilers in third place in the Pacific, but hold the regulations + overtime wins tiebreaker over Edmonton as a first-round series likely looms next week. The Oilers play Vancouver on Sunday, so don’t get your hopes up for home ice in the first round (if home ice is the sort of thing you hope for).

Pete DeBoer hinted he may rest players for the season finale, so if you were already skeptical of burning 2.5 hours watching this game, well... I can’t blame you. Logan Couture and Joe Thornton are already highly unlikely to play, and I expect a couple other veteran guys to find spots in the press box tonight.

That means some young guys might get a call from the Barracuda in their stead. Timo Meier will almost certainly draw back into the lineup this evening, and perhaps one or two more will get the call from the team as they last played at home on Wednesday. The AHL squad is set to play in Stockton tonight, so keep that in mind when considering any player-poaching scenarios.

The Sharks are 1-3 against the Flames this year and have been outscored 12-10 in those contests. Two of those three losses came by one goal, with only the most recent defeat coming by a wider margin.
