Six San Jose Sharks games, including matchups with the defending Western Conference champion Nashville Predators and expansion Vegas Golden Knights, will be broadcast nationally in the United States on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) this season, NBC announced today.
San Jose’s full list of appearances is as follows:
October 4: Philadelphia at San Jose, 7:30 PM PST
October 17: Montreal at San Jose, 7:30 PM PST
November 1: Nashville at San Jose, 7:30 PM PST
November 8: Tampa Bay at San Jose, 7:30 PM PST
March 1, 2018: Chicago at San Jose, 7 PM PST
March 22, 2018: Vegas at San Jose, 10 PM PST
All six are airing as the second game of a doubleheader. Three of those games will air as NBCSN’s “Wednesday Nightcap,” airing immediately after the conclusion of “Wednesday Night Rivalry” games.
Four of the Sharks’ six national appearances are set to air two-and-a-half hours after the first game. Last season, Sharks games that fell within that range often started late on NBCSN began on NHL Network, which is not carried in as many households as NBCSN. We’ve reached out NBC for comment on what will happen when the first game of the doubleheader goes long, and will update this story when we hear back.
UPDATE (1:04 PM PST): In the event the first game goes long, NBCSN will join the second game of the doubleheader in progress on NBCSN, according to a spokesperson. Viewers will be able to stream the game from the start on NBC Sports Live Extra, if their cable provider carries NBCSN.
