Sharks recall Middleton and DeSimone from Barracuda

They’re not done with you yet, boys!

NHL: Preseason-Anaheim Ducks at San Jose Sharks John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

The Sharks recalled two defensemen from the San Jose Barracuda Thursday, bringing up Jacob Middleton and Nick DeSimone. The two players will get a slightly longer look from the team’s coaching staff, and provide some depth on the blue line for tonight’s contest in Anaheim.

The recently re-signed Middleton played 50 games for the Barracuda last season, scoring nine points (one goal, eight assists) in that time, and improved in the post-season, scoring four assists in 13 games of the AHL squad’s Calder Cup run.

DeSimone jumped to the AHL late last season after finishing 38 games for Union College. After scoring one goal in four appearances during the regular season, DeSimone put up six (one goal, five assists) during the playoffs.

Considering the stated omissions from San Jose’s roster tonight include Brent Burns, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Paul Martin, and Brenden Dillon, it’s likely that one or both of Middleton and DeSimone will see game action tonight, but a roster spot on opening night is still a long shot.
