Sharks at Jets: Lines, gamethread, and where to watch

The Sharks could drag this road trip up to .500 today

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

The Sharks' (21-12-6, 3rd Pacific) next and final stop on their eastern Canada and Dallas road trip is a visit to Winnipeg to take on the high flying Jets (24-11-7, 1st Central). It has been frequently proposed over the past few years that the Jets would be a competitive team if they could just get a save now and again. Apparently there was some truth to that statement, as all general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff had to do was sign Steve Mason to an $8 million deal and then play Connor Hellebuyck anyway to get the results they needed.

The Jets are on a five game point streak (4-0-1), most recently coming out on top of a 4-3 contest with the Buffalo Sabres on Friday evening. Winnipeg leads the central division, and boasts the league's seventh leading point scorer in Blake Wheeler, and the league's tenth leading goal scorer in Patrik Laine.

The Sharks, on the other hand, are likely still recovering from their shocking third period meltdown in Ottawa on Friday night. The three goal lead the Sharks gave up marks the first time this season that the Sharks have carried a lead into the third period and lost. As brutal as that loss was, the Jets are likely to provide the greatest challenge the Sharks have yet to face on this road trip.

The addition of defenseman Tobias Enstrom will bolster the Jets' already formidable defensive corps, and Winnipeg has the defensive depth to ease him back into the lineup on a second pair with the struggling Dustin Byfuglien. The Sharks can finish this road trip above .500 with a win today, and head into their bye week on a high(ish) note.
