Sharks trade Brenden Dillon to Capitals

The Washington Capitals have acquired left-handed defender Brenden Dillon from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2020 second-round draft pick and a conditional third-round pick in 2021, the Sharks announced Tuesday. In the event that Washington wins the Stanley Cup in 2020, then the Sharks will receive Arizona’s third-round pick in 2020 instead.

The Sharks are retaining 50 percent of Dillon’s salary and cap hit, the Capitals reported. The Sharks had signed Dillon to a five-year contract extension on June 30, 2015. This is the last year of his deal. His cap hit is $3,270,000 with a base salary of $3.9 million.

The Sharks acquired Dillon from the Dallas Stars on Nov. 21, 2014 in exchange for defender Jason Demers. Dillon skated in 439 games for the Sharks and scored 14 goals. He added 88 assists in his time with the Sharks.
