In the biggest splash of the 2020 NHL Trade Deadline for the organization, the San Jose Sharks have traded forward Barclay Goodrow, as well as Philadelphia’s 2020 third-round draft pick acquired in the Justin Braun trade, to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and forward Anthony Greco.
Goodrow was undrafted, instead signing with the Sharks in 2014 and working his way up through the organization, spending parts of three seasons with the Sharks’ AHL affiliate. Since 2017, he has been a mainstay on the Sharks roster, mostly filling a bottom-six role, though injuries to the Sharks’ forward group in 2019-20 have seen him play nearly every forward slot this year.
Goodrow’s eight goals so far this season rank eighth on the team and he ranks ninth overall in points with 24. In 268 career games with the Sharks, Goodrow has totaled 26 goals and 45 assists for 71 career points.
“Barclay has been an extremely valuable, team-first player to our organization for the past six seasons,” said Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson. “His story of perseverance and hard work from being an undrafted free agent to being one of the most versatile players in the National Hockey League has been a pleasure to watch. You hate to lose players like this, but this is an important step in acquiring valuable assets that can be utilized by our club moving forward.”
Anthony Greco is a 26-year-old winger who was playing with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL. This will be Greco’s third team of the season, having previously played for the Florida Panthers’ AHL affiliate, as well. The forward has posted 20 points (ten goals, ten assists) in 40 AHL games between Syracuse and Springfield this season. He is on a $700,000 contract and will become a restricted free agent this summer.
