Overseas Update: Marcus Sorensen shines with Swedish club

The Sharks winger leads the second tier Swedish league in scoring.

Marcus Sorensen is finding his game back in his home country. Through 14 games with HC Vita Hästen, the 28-year-old forward is leading the HockeyAllsvenskan — Sweden’s second tier men’s hockey league — in goals (11) and points (24), while ranking second in assists (13).

Before joining the Sharks in 2016, Sorensen played three seasons in HockeyAllsvenskan, with Borås HC and Djurgårdens IF, as well as two seasons with the Djurgårdens IF top-tier SHL team. He hasn’t scored at a point-per-game pace since juniors, though he came close in his final year with the SHL, scoring 34 points in 47 games. He’s currently scoring at 1.71 points per game.

It’s worth noting that Sorensen is one of the older players in the league, and he’s playing big minutes with team captain Emil Lundberg, a 27-year-old winger who is currently 11th in league scoring. The two seem to have found great chemistry, as Lundberg is scoring at over a point-per-game pace, a feat he also hasn’t managed since juniors.

It sounds like they’re having fun, though. Unfortunately, this link leads to a video that is in Swedish, which I do not speak, but I found this transcribed and Google Translated headline totally delightful:

Despite their personal successes, one line does not make a team and Vita Hästen currently sits sixth in the league with a 7-6-0 record. Jonathan Dahlén’s Timrå IK is currently leading the league with an 11-2-1 record.

Here’s a quick glance at how the rest of the Sharks are doing abroad (Note: I broke it down by league, to give an easy comparison of how players in the same league are performing. This does mean that Yegor Spiridonov and Adam Raska have multiple entries, as they have been shifted up and down between leagues):
