Joe Pavelski entered the zone with a friendly how-do-you-do and cross-check to the ribs of Barclay Goodrow. Tampa Bay Lightning forward Cedric Paquette noticed and a few moments later, a bunch of guys are pushing and shoving against the glass, with “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” playing over the speakers — and it was all started, as the broadcast noted, by “two San Jose Sharks.”
You can watch the check go down right here:
If you’ve been watching the series, it’s obvious that the two are more than capable of putting aside the fact that until now they’ve both only ever played for the San Jose Sharks. They haven’t been afraid of going up against each other physically, as Pavelski made very clear tonight.
As a result, Pavelski received two minutes each for both roughing and cross-checking. Stars forward Jason Dickinson also received two minutes for roughing. Pat Maroon was issued a 10-minute misconduct and both Goodrow and Paquette received two minutes for roughing. In total, 62 penalty minutes were given in tonight’s game (Lightning 36, Stars 26). The Stars lost 5-2.
