2021 NHL Draft: Every Sharks pick

Tonight is the first round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft and a slight salve on a dumpster of a season is that the San Jose Sharks will be picking inside of the top-10, a rarity for a team that’s been plagued with perpetually competitive results over their less-recent history.

And for a team that needs a quick turn around, the good news is that they’re armed with eight picks, only losing out on one of their original picks, while snagging a few middle/late-rounds picks at the 2021 trade deadline.

Here’s a quick refresher on all of the selections they’ll have and how the team acquired them:

Sharks 2021 Draft Picks

ROUND PICK (OVERALL) VIA
1 7
3 71
4 103
4 121 TOR
5 135
5 156 COL
6 167

Picks Lost

  • Round 2, 39 overall: This pick is the final piece of the trade that brought defender Erik Karlsson to San Jose on September 13, 2018. The Ottawa Senators received three total picks from the Sharks, with various conditions. The Senators would receive this pick if the Sharks re-signed Karlsson, and it would have upgraded to a first-round selection if the Sharks had reached the 2019 Stanley Cup Final./

Picks Acquired

  • Round 4, 121 overall: As part of a three-way trade on April 11, 2021, the Sharks received forward Nick Foligno from the Columbus Blue Jackets. In exchange for Foligno at half-salary and forward Stefan Noesen, the Toronto Maple Leafs sent the Sharks their fourth-round selection.
  • Round 5, 156 overall: The Sharks acquired the Colorado Avalanche’s fifth-round pick and defender Greg Pateryn in exchange for goaltender Devan Dubnyk on April 10, 2021./

The first round of the draft will be broadcast live tonight at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET. Rounds 2-7 will air Saturday morning at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET.
