Round two of player reviews.
This week Fear the Fin explored young forward Fabian Zetterlund’s time with the Sharks and what we might be able to expect from him moving forward. Zetterlund is an RFA and will need a new contract before the start of next season.
We looked at Oskar Lindblom, who is still struggling to find his game. Lindblom says while his body appears to have recovered from his battle with cancer, he cannot say the same about his confidence.
Goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen spent some time adjusting his playing style and it showed at the start of the season. Kahkonen was subpar in the net but could see a bounceback in 2023-24.
It feels like defenseman Mario Ferraro has been with the Sharks for a very long time, but he’s only 24. This season was not good for the developing blueliner, and so far, there are no indicators that this is an aberration.
Meanwhile, captain Logan Couture had his first healthy season in a few years. He played all 82 games and shined on the ice. Couture scored 67 points and logged more minutes than every other Sharks player not named Erik Karlsson.
Finally, gritty forward Jonah Gadjovich only played 35 games for the Sharks this season, but it looked like his game was trending in the right direction before he was injured. He’s another young forward that will need a new contract if he’s going to be back in teal this fall.
And just in case you missed anything we posted previously, check out the player reviews released earlier this month.
- Matt Benning: A steal at $1.25M
- Nico Sturm: Settling into his role nicely
- Jacob MacDonald: San Jose’s Swiss Army knife
- Evgeny Svechnikov: Did not improve his chances at a new contract
- Luke Kunin: What might have been…
- Steven Lorentz: Reliably reliable fourth liner
Stay tuned for tomorrow, when we start a new round of player reviews with defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic.
