2023 Sharks player reviews recap

Last Friday, we rolled out player reviews for a handful of Sharks players. Here’s a quick recap in case you missed anything. Of course, you can click on any of the links to read the full story.

Fear the Fin started things off with Matt Benning. An offseason signing that turned out to be a steal for the Sharks. Benning and Marc-Edouard Vlasic created a shutdown defensive pairing that gave San Jose some stability on the blueline.

Then, we looked at forward Nico Sturm, who did not get re-signed by the Colorado Avalanche after winning the Stanley Cup and had something to prove on the ice this past season.

We talked about utility player Jacob MacDonald, who was used not only as a depth defenseman but also as a forward when things got thin up front.

Fear the Fin explored Evgeny Svechnikov’s first season with the Sharks and discussed whether the team should re-sign the forward this offseason.

Plus, what might have been if Luke Kunin did not get injured a third of the way through the season and how he might look coming back to the team in the fall.

Finally, we looked at new addition Steven Lorentz and the single stat that put him above and beyond every other regular player on the Sharks’ roster, including Erik Karlsson, Tomas Hertl, Timo Meier and Logan Couture.

Fear the Fin’s player reviews resume tomorrow, but now seemed like as good a time as any to summarize what we’ve learned before we start jumping into anything new.
