2025 NHL Draft: Day 2 thread

Alright, get ready because round two is on deck. The San Jose Sharks have a second set of picks to go through today, and there’s a lot for General Manager Mike Grier and company to think about. The Sharks have seven more picks if the team doesn’t make any trades. Mike Grier and company stuck with the team’s two picks in round one, taking Michael Misa with the second overall pick and then allowing the chips to fall as they would and taking goaltender Josh Ravensbergen with the 30th overall pick.

While Sharks fans thought it was a mistake given the team’s desperate need for defensive prospects, Grier has never wavered from his belief that the team is currently in the position of taking the best player on the board and not drafting for position. That likely means he and his team believed that Ravensbergen was the best player on the board at 30, regardless of position.

Today is a new day, however, and that means that there’s another chance for the Sharks to draft a defenseman and a right-shot one at that. Six of the defensemen that we discussed as potential picks for the Sharks in the second round are still available and three of them are right-shot defensemen. That means that after drafting a forward and a goaltender in the first round, the Sharks can draft a defenseman or two in the second round.

How to watch the rounds 2-7

Rounds two through seven will be televised on ESPN+ which means no network for these guys. We’re also hoping this means no trip to the draft room for each and every pick. The truth of the matter is that four and a half hours of draft was long and tedious, so we’re hoping things will go a little fast this morning.

The second round of the NHL draft starts at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET.
