Al Stalock robs Trent Campbell, makes early bid for AHL Save of The Year

In today’s game against Atlantic Division rivals the Bridgeport Tigers, Al Stalock came across his body in overtime to rob Trent Campbell and keep the game knotted at three.

It’s an early candidate for AHL Save of The Year to be certain, one that is bound to have Worcester buzzing for the foreseeable future. The Sharks would go on to win 4-3 in the shootout.

El guante de dios. The glove of god.

Stalock has improved from a rough start to the 2010-2011 campaign, currently boasting a .905 SV% compared to the .893 he had twelve starts into the year. It’s not the stat line many had hoped for from San Jose’s top goaltending prospect, especially in what many expected to be a development year that would lead to a transition into the NHL, but there’s no doubt that the raw athleticism displayed on this save is an asset that will keep the organization intrigued with his potential.

It’s a long shot we’ll see Stalock in San Jose this season, barring an injury to either Antti Niemi or Antero Niittymaki– that reality is one that Trent Campbell, as well as his Bridgeport teammates, probably won’t be too happy with when they meet again on December 18th.

Now go ahead watch that clip again.
