Head coach Roy Sommer also announced the captains for the team, going with veterans Bryan Lerg and John McCarthy. Lerg was the captain of the Worcester Sharks last season, while John McCarthy was Worcester’s all time leading scorer. The call-ups you’ll be most likely to see with the Sharks are Karlsson (when he’s recovered from injury), Goldobin, and Jevpalovs to fill a scoring role, while Carpenter, Lerg, and McLaren are probably the three you’ll see to fill a checking role. I was particularly impressed by Carpenter’s defensive play during the rookie scrimmage.

Mueller starting down with the Barracuda is probably the best thing for him. Honestly, he looked like a player who needed to be there last season desperately – learning all he could from juniors, but not NHL ready. Unfortunately for him, he was not eligible for the AHL last season. The other defenseman I think will be most interesting to watch will be McNally and Bergman. McNally had some problems at Harvard, but appears to be pretty talented and looked solid in rookie camp. Bergman was the Sharks second round pick in 2014 and should be a fun puck-moving RD to watch.
Goaltenders:
1- Troy Grosenick
30- Aaron Dell
We all remember Grosenick’s NHL debut. His contract turns into a one-way deal next season, so a good year could do a lot to earn a back-up role in the NHL next year. Dell, meanwhile, forced his way up through the organizational depth chart last year – going 8-1-2 in the ECHL and 15-8-2 in the AHL with a .927 save percentage.
Remember these numbers because they won’t change upon a call-up. The continuity makes it easier for fans, players, and the equipment staff.
The Barracuda begin their first regular season tomorrow night against the Rockford IceHogs at 7:30 pm at SAP Center. It will also be broadcast on KDOW 1220 AM.
