Be there or be square: Five reasons Red Wings at Sharks is one you can’t miss

The San Jose Sharks are at home for much of November, with five games left this month at the Shark Tank. If you’re looking to get to a game at SAP Center before the month ends, here are five reasons it should be tomorrow night’s tilt against the Detroit Red Wings.

Will the streak live on?

The Sharks are currently on a season-high five-game win streak. After a rocky start to the season that saw them booed off their own ice, the Sharks are starting to turn things around. If they can keep things rolling, you’ll get to say you were there when the Sharks made it six in a row.

Goals, goals, goals

There’s no real way to put this politely: both teams have pretty terrible goaltending heading into this match up. Martin Jones’ .888 save percentage is only a sliver better than Jimmy Howard’s .887. Howard’s 2-8-0 record in net is far from ideal for Detroit, but is a sitting duck for the Sharks’ red-hot offense.

And if Detroit manages to get the puck going the other direction, this could turn into a high-scoring affair, which is always more fun that a tight 2-1 win.

Old rivals

The Red Wings now reside in a much more geographically appropriate Eastern Conference, but back in the days that they called the Central Division home, there wasn’t much love between San Jose and Detroit. I can’t imagine why.

Of course, having Jamie Baker on the broadcast means this rivalry will never truly die and that makes the product on the ice all the more exciting. Sure, it’s not the Vegas Golden Knights, but we’ve got plenty of petty feelings to spread around.

Movember is in full swing

The hockey world is certainly no stranger to unkempt facial hair, with the tradition of the “playoff beard,” alive and well, but many hockey players are participating in “movember,” an event to raise awareness about men’s health issues (specifically testicular cancer, prostate cancer, and suicide) by growing mustaches.

Of course, many of these players have started from scratch, making the first weeks of the month a horrid display of patchy facial hair across the league. But halfway to the end, those mustaches are starting to look full and there’s no shame in enjoying them while they last.

Giveaway jersey

The Sharks always have the best giveaways and tonight will be no different. All fans in attendance will be getting these “Shark Freak” jerseys, designed by Santa Cruz Skateboards artist Jimbo Philips, as the second installment of the 2019-20 Artist Collection.

Seriously, this is amazing:

The only way to get one is to be there!
