Brent Burns Named Third Star for March

Burns' 19 points land him NHL's Third Star for the month of March.

Brent Burns has been named NHL's Third Star for the month of March, the league announced this morning.

Burns tallied 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 16 total games and his 73 total points on the season are a big reason why San Jose is returning to the playoffs after a one year hiatus.

March also saw Burns set a new franchise record for single-season goals (27) and points (73) by a defenseman as he passed Sandis Ozolinsh who held the record back at the end of the 1993-1994 season. With four games left on the schedule, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Burns get another goal or two and several more points to add on to his career year.

It doesn't seem like that long ago the Sharks acquired Burns from the Minnesota Wild, but this June it'll be five years since the Sharks gave up Devin Setoguchi, Charlie Coyle, and a first-round pick for Burns. It's a move that certainly paid off for the Sharks.

On a briefly related side note, I found this on Twitter and thought it was too funny not to share. Enjoy.
