-While the reasonable first reaction to these numbers would go something like, “well yeah, but score effects,” I’m not sure score effects had much to do with it. San Jose outchanced Edmonton handily in the game because of good performances every period.

-Last night was just about as good as you’ll ever see Thornton’s line play, as it looked like the Sharks were on the powerplay every time that line was out on the ice

-As we mentioned in our recap last night, Couture’s line was not great, and the Sharks’ second D-pairing gave up much more than you would prefer in the defensive end

-The Sharks’ fourth line for a second consecutive game generated zero scoring chances

-Lander and his linemates were absolutely pounded by the Sharks, as Lander and his most frequent linemate Teddy Purcell were on the ice for 15 SJ scoring chances

-Though the Oilers gave up a lot defensively while he was on the ice, impressive performance by Derek Roy and his linemates, as Edmonton generated 7 scoring chances while Roy was on the ice

-Though he gave up three even strength goals, Fasth was pretty darn good last night, contributing to the Oilers managing a 92% “save” percentage (though that includes crossbars, misses, etc.) on SJ scoring chances

-A few Sharks had really good zone entry numbers, but Pavelski’s numbers are by far the most impressive here, as he carried the puck in on over 50% of his entries, and the team managed almost one whole shot attempt per every one of his entries

-Hertl also had a very strong game, with his neutral zone efforts leading to what I think we can all agree should have been an allowed goal, among other things

-Overall just a very good performance by San Jose, managing almost a full shot attempt per carry-in

-Again, great game by Derek Roy on the offensive side of things, with the Oilers averaging two and a half shot attempts per each of his carry-ins

-Hall left the game early last night, and I think the numbers here show part of why that is. It’s pretty rare to see Taylor Hall dump the puck in, so when he only carries the puck in once on five entry attempts, you know something’s up.

-Total role reversals for San Jose’s top two pairings, as for once the Sharks’ right side did fantastic defending against opposition zone entry attempts, while the Sharks’ left side really struggled

-Fayne and Klefbom posted solid numbers, showing a bit of why those two are going to be pretty instrumental in any Edmonton success in future years

-Solid game by Pavelski, as he turned the puck over zero times on his seven touches

-Although he turned the puck over quite a bit, overall a pretty good game for Dillon again

-Tenner only managed one successful breakout in this game, but props for managing zero turnovers

-Another solid game from Nieto

-Yakupov, “the Nuge,” and Roy posted pretty solid numbers for the Oilers

-The Oilers’ D only managed three successful breakouts, which is what Brenden Dillon managed all by himself
