-Sharks’ fourth line was stellar, having a hand in seven of the Sharks’ sixteen scoring chances at evens

-Couture’s line also had a huge bounceback performance, with every member of that line finishing the night with a +5 or better scoring chance differential

-Niemi didn’t allow a single goal off of a scoring chance so let’s just say he technically got a shutout kinda?

-I think several factors play into it (not having played an NHL game in literal months, playing with Dillon on his off side), but Mueller didn’t have a fantastic first game back

-Miller was also pretty good at evens last night, as he only allowed one goal against off of scoring chances

-Vancouver’s top pair, first line and parts of their second line were the only ones to finish with positive scoring chance differentials for the ‘Nucks

-Players like Burns and Dillon had good games, but the real neutral zone stars for the Sharks in this game were Couture and Tierney

-The team as a whole did a great job creating offense off of carry-ins, generating almost a full shot attempt per carry-in

-Vrbata and Higgins put up pretty good numbers, while H. Sedin performed far better than his brother, and Cory Schneider Bo Horvat put up decent numbers as well

-Average performances by Mueller and Vlasic, while Burns got absolutely feasted upon by Vancouver

-Tennyson and Irwin had a pretty good game defending the blue line, only allowing six carry-ins against on seventeen entry attempts against

-The Sharks didn’t attempt many entries against VAN’s top pairing in general, but I’m surprised they didn’t try to target Weber more. Any time you can take advantage of a depth defenseman playing top pair minutes, I feel like you really should.

-Dan Hamhuis is unfortunately starting to show signs of aging, shown partly through his 71.43% carry-in against percentage in this game. Bummer to see a once-elite defenseman like Hamhuis start to decline.

-Pretty weak game on zone exits by the Sharks, though performances like Couture’s prevented the Sharks’ numbers from being completely terrible

-Excellent work by some of the young guys, as Tierney and Goodrow both put up very good numbers

-Nieto’s streak of awesome zone exit games unfortunately came to a halt last night

-VAN’s exit numbers certainly didn’t come courtesy of their D-men, as their defense managed only four successful breakouts

-Their numbers instead come due to a few standout performances like those of Burrows, Dorsett and Hansen
