-Barclay Goodrow had an absolutely fantastic game last night, having four scoring chances last night, and finishing his night with a +2 scoring chance differential at evens
-Although the Couture line had their defensive hands full with an Arizona third line that was surprisingly effective, they produced well offensively, with Couture having a hand in four SJ even strength scoring chances, and Nieto having a hand in three
-The top line also did well, as every member of that line managed a +3 scoring chance differential, and each of the two Joes finished their nights with three scoring chance "points." Karlsson, the third member of that line, did not have a hand in any SJ scoring chances.
-The top powerplay unit was doing well last night, generating four scoring chances for the Sharks, with Couture having a role in three of those chances
-Burns and Hannan had a pretty fantastic game, judging by scoring chances, as that D-pair was on the ice for nine SJ scoring chances, and only two against at evens
-Despite the fact that it was Hertl who was demoted to the fourth line partway through the game last night, I think it was probably Sheppard who deserved the boot, being on the ice for zero SJ scoring chances in this game
-Irwin-Tennyson had been pretty good the last couple of weeks, but wow did they have a rough night last night, being on the ice for zero SJ scoring chances at evens
-Seriously, Arizona's third line was surprisingly good in this game. Shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, I guess, given that Brendan Shinnimin has been a Shark killer at the minor league level, but for a line that only got around thirteen minutes of even strength ice time last night, generating five scoring chances is very impressive. Erat's name has been thrown around in trade rumors a lot lately, and if he keeps putting up numbers like these, then whatever team trades for him will be getting a very useful middle-six forward.

-Couture and Thornton had good games
-Despite Jumbo and Cooter having good games, the team as a whole didn't do too well, carrying the puck in on only 37% of their entries
-Speaking of their entries, take a look at the number of entries SJ had in comparison to Arizona. SJ attempted 59 entries, while Arizona attempted 79. Arizona attempted twenty more entries than SJ in this game. Pretty brutal.
-Ekman-Larsson didn't have a very good scoring chance differential in this game, but his zone entry work was pretty darn good, carrying the puck in twice on his two entry attempts, and the Coyotes managed a whole shot attempt per each of those entries
-Kyle Chipchura had a surprisingly effective game last night, carrying the puck in twice on his five entry attempts, and the Coyotes averaged 1.8 shot attempts per every one of his entries
-Lucas Lessio had a pretty good game on zone entries, though I'm surprised the Desert Dogs didn't manage more shots off of his carry-ins
-Shinnimin had a good game on zone entries, posting good all around numbers

-Dillon's had some up and down efforts on entry targeting the last few weeks, but he was fantastic last night, forcing dump-ins on six of the thirteen entries attempted against him, and denying almost a quarter of the entries attempted against him
-Mueller also had a good game, only allowing carry-ins on a third of the entries attempted against him
-Irwin had a good game as well
-In an excellent attempt to boost his trade value, Hannan had a decent game
-Two defensemen who have seen their names thrown about in trade rumors lately--Keith Yandle and Zbynek Michalek--were fantastic at defending their blue line last night, as those two only allowed four carry-ins against on thirteen entry attempts against
-Perhaps more impressive is the fact that Yandle denied three of San Jose's six entry attempts against him, once again showing the different ways he provides value for the Arizona Coyotes

-Though Dillon was good at preventing Arizona carry-ins last night, he was very bad at exiting the zone, turning the puck over on almost half of his D-zone puck touches last night, much like Irwin
-Marleau, Tierney and Goodrow had good games on zone exits for the forwards
-Thornton had a brutal game exiting the zone, turning the puck over on 63% of his touches
-We mentioned it in our recap of the game last night, but it's worth repeating here: Mueller did not have a good time with the puck last night, turning it over 11 times on his 20 touches
-Burns didn't handle the puck much in the defensive zone in this game, as he easily handled it the least out of the Sharks' D, but he managed three successful breakouts, more than three other Sharks defensemen did
-Again in an effort to boost his trade value, Hannan had a surprisingly good game on zone exits last night, managing four successful breaouts
-Gagner had a great game for Arizona on zone exits, as did Martinook
-Once again though, it's Arizona's trade bait players that really put up good numbers here, as Erat, Yandle, and Michalek really had very good games
How did trade deadline targets do in this game?
-Keith Yandle really did do fantastic in this game, with zone entries being the only aspect of this game that he didn't impress in
-Zbynek Michalek has been linked to the Sharks in recent weeks, and with games like these, it's hard to not like the idea of Michalek on one of the Sharks' top two pairings. He's solid defensively, exited the zone well in this game, and defended against carry-ins quite well. I'm not sure the Sharks will really be willing to outbid anyone for Michalek's services, but if he could bring games like this to the Sharks D corps on a consistent basis, then Doug Wilson really should give acquiring him a lot of thought.
-Martin Erat hasn't been quite the same player ever since leaving Nashville, but in this game, he showed why he does have value. In a bottom-six role for the Coyotes in this game, Erat put up good numbers just about everywhere, with only his zone entry numbers really lacking (though he generally does put up very good numbers on zone entries). It's debatable whether or not Erat is as effective now as he was in Nashville, but whatever team acquires him at the deadline will for sure be getting a player who can provide a boost to that team's bottom-six, which as we all know, is very important come playoff time.
-The Pittsburgh Penguins are rumored to be looking at acquiring Scott Hannan, which, given how it went the last time the Penguins acquired an aging defensive-defenseman from the Sharks, they really shouldn't be. However, from the Sharks' perspective, this is an opportunity to punt a guy who really is not good for the team, while stockpiling assets in preparation for what promises to be a very good draft this June. Though this was one of Hannan's better all-around game in a while, he simply doesn't perform like this on a nightly basis, and I don't think anyone who's watched him consistently this year can say he's been good enough to play consistent minutes in a team's top six, never mind their top pair. It's obviously impossible to say how serious the Pens' interest is in Hannan, but if they are willing to part with basically any sort of tangible asset, it's a move Doug Wilson should make. Say what you will about having his "veteran leadership" in the room, having Hannan in your lineup simply is not conducive to winning hockey games, and anytime you can get assets in return for making your team better, it's something you have to do.
