Calder 2016 Finalists: Connor McDavid, Shayne Gostisebhere and Artemi Panarin tabbed as top rookies

McDavid, Panarin and Gostisbehere are your Calder finalists

Elliotte Friedman has announced that Connor McDavid, Artemi Panarin and Shayne Gostisbehere are finalists for Rookie of the Year.

Connor McDavid missed 37 games this season, but had 48 points in the 45 games he did play, making him the only rookie to average more than a point per game.

McDavid's closest competition in average points is the Blackhawks' Artemi Panarin, who had 77 in 80 games played. He benefitted greatly from linemate Patrick Kane. Panarin, while technically an NHL rookie, is 24 years old and has played professional hockey in Russia for a number of seasons. Whether this will factor into voting remains to be seen.

The Flyers' Shayne Gostisbehere is the only defenseman nominated. Gostisbehere had an impressive 46 points in 64 games played, which is good for tenth in the NHL by points per game.

The NHL Awards will be held in Las Vegas on June 22.
