Capitals at Sharks Preview: A tough test

The Sharks will face the league-leading Washington Capitals for the last time this season tonight at SAP Center.

Washington’s 103 points are 13 more than the next closest team (The Dallas Stars). With a win tonight, the Caps will tie their franchise record for road wins at 24.

The Sharks, on the other hand, have gone 6-3-1 in their last 10 games and have got themselves within four points of first place in the Pacific Division. Thursday night’s loss against the New Jersey Devils gives the Kings and Ducks a game in hand, but it’s still a far from bad place for San Jose to be.

Last Meeting

The Sharks faced the Capitals in their third game of the season and got a big 5-0 win in Washington. Martin Jones was in the midst of his record-setting shutout streak, and San Jose had goals from five different players: Joe Thornton, Mike Brown (lol), Tomas Hertl, Matt Nieto, and Chris Tierney. The Capitals won the last two times they played in San Jose.

Storylines:

  • I would imagine we’ll see Martin Jones start tonight, but we don’t have any confirmation yet.
  • Friend of the Blog Kevin Kurz spoke to John Tortora about the bad ice conditions. “Recently, we made the decision to implement a supplemental dehumidification system, much earlier than we have in the past.” Tortora is blaming rain in the Bay Area for the poor conditions.
  • The Ducks have a night off tonight but the Kings will be playing the Devils. Let’s hope they suffer the same fate the Sharks did two nights ago./
